Hinton is located on Yellowhead Highway 16, 171 miles west of Edmonton, and 4 miles east of junction with Bighorn Highway 40 to Grande Cache and Grande Prairie.

Hinton is a major service stop for travelers on Yellowhead Highway 16 and on the Bighorn Highway, which junctions with Highway 16 just west of town.

Hinton has all visitor facilities, including including major chain hotels/motels, restaurant and fast-food outlets; gas stations; RV parts and services; Safeway supermarket; shopping centres and shopping mall; dental offices, RCMP post, bowling alley, curling rink, golf course and recreation complex with indoor pool.
