Klawock is located on Prince of Wales Island, 23 miles from the ferry terminal at Clark Bay/Hollis and 6 miles from Craig.

Klawock originally was a Tlingit Indian summer fishing village; a trading post and salmon saltery were established here in 1868. The local economy is still dependent on fishing, along with timber cutting and sawmilling. Grocery store with deli and liquor, and gas/diesel are available.
- Klawock Totem Park contains many totems which were originally placed here in 1938–40 as part of a Civilian Conservation Corps project. The Long House is located along the main highway.
